Currently at approximately 1°C above pre-industrial levels (1850-1900), our planet is already seeing tremendous environmental transformations in response to this relatively sudden rise in temperature. Numerous scientists have gathered evidence that the warming will continue and are warning that the current 2°C limit proposed might be too high; and that a 1.5°C limit should be imposed instead.
Some of the measures necessary to limit the global warming to 1.5°C are already underway, but time is of essence. Indeed, more measures need to be put forward and those already in place need to be accelerated significantly.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has approved the key findings of the Special Report based on the assessment of the available scientific (over 6,000 scientific references), technical and socio-economic literature relevant to global warming of 1.5°C.
