The Challenge <\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

When we think of an organization\u2019s carbon footprint, we often picture its offices, factories, or business travel. Yet in most sectors, the bulk of emissions comes from elsewhere: the <\/span>purchased goods, services, and capital equipment<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0
In aerospace, where the supply chain is global and particularly complex, this challenge is especially significant.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

It is in this context that the <\/span>International Aerospace Environmental Group (IAEG)<\/span><\/b> selected CCG and its partner <\/span>Carbone 4<\/span><\/b><\/a>. Their mandate, assigned in 2020: to develop a <\/span>methodology, guide, and tool<\/span><\/b> to help members quantify the emissions linked to their purchases and capital assets, while accounting for their very diverse levels of maturity.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Approach <\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This project illustrates how a sectoral organization can pool its resources to <\/span>standardize methodologies<\/span><\/b> and make supply chain emission accounting easier.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Concretely, the first step was to <\/span>analyze the needs expressed by IAEG members<\/span><\/b>, while taking into account the <\/span>wide variety of products<\/span><\/b> manufactured in the aerospace industry: from structural parts to electronic components to embedded systems.<\/span>\u00a0
We then conducted a <\/span>review of existing tools<\/span><\/b>, in order to identify the most relevant approaches and build on existing work.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

From there, we designed a <\/span>multi-level methodology<\/span><\/b> that allows each company to progress at its own pace. A calculation tool was developed and tested with a pilot group to validate its robustness and ease of use. Finally, <\/span>supporting guides<\/span><\/b> were written to facilitate adoption and ensure updates over time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
